Frequently Asked Questions
When is best to visit for foliage?

The Whiteface Region typically reaches peak fall foliage in late September or during the last two weeks of September. However, the exact timing can vary depending on local weather conditions and the first frost of the season, which can trigger more color change. To stay up to date and plan your fall getaway, consult our foliage report, updated weekly.

Where is best to see foliage?

Anywhere in the region, you'll find incredible views of foliage. Hiking trails can offer some of the best views from the highest points around. A fan-favorite viewing location is Whiteface Mountain, using the Whiteface Veterans' Memorial Highway, or taking the Cloudsplitter Gondola up to the summit. Here you can bask in 360 degree views of beautiful fall colors.

What is the weather like?

The Adirondacks in fall can have a wide range of weather patterns, sometimes multiple in one day. Before and during your trip, its best to consult the weather app for unforseen changes and trail conditions. If you get rained out, there's still tons to do indoors all around!

What to do after the leaves fall?

There's still so much to explore around peak foliage. Consider adventuring on the The NY Fiber Trail, a state-wide self-guided tour with stops at farms, shops, and artist’s studios, including a stop in the Whiteface Region. Perfect for knitters, crochet devotees, felt fanatics, and more, you'll have a blast discovering the farms and creators of the region!

What is agritourism?

Tourism in which visitors can take part in farm or village activities, as animal and crop care, cooking and cleaning, handicrafts, or supporting local farms and makers.

This can include farmers markets, farm-stays, farm visits, roadside markets or stands, U-Pick operations, community supported agriculture,  on-farm retail such as dairies, creameries, woolen goods, and more! All of which the Whiteface Region is full of. Get in on the agritourism movement!
